Strings
Strings class is a fun, exciting, and positive environment where students learn all about string instruments (violin, viola, cello, and bass). Students in 4th grade are instructed on the basics of plucking and bowing their instruments, as well as how to play in a group setting. Students in 5th and 6th grade continue to refine their technical and musical skills, while also getting the opportunity to participate in special collaboration projects, festivals and performance trips. In addition, middle school orchestra students have the opportunity to participate in chamber music. They also have the opportunity to serve as peer mentors for our younger students.
All Strings students learn note reading, music theory, aural skills, important composers, and about the history of their instruments.
Ms. Parks
Band
The band programs begin in 4th grade with what we call ' Exploratory Band". During the quarter students try all the band instruments from clarinet, flute, sax, trumpet, trombone, baritone and percussion. At the end of the trial period, students are free to choose one and begin running the class as a regular band program. The rest of the year is filled with rehearsals; learning technique and preparing for concerts. The 4th and 5th grade band is typically combined for concerts. They learn primarily "sheet music" and learn a fun mix of styles and genres to spark their curiosity. These classes all meet two times a week and every other Friday for 40 minutes during their corresponding "special" time. Practice at home is important and a crucial part of their grade.
Middle school band is during 4th period every day and is a group of beginners and advanced level students. This affords opportunities to work with individuals, to peer coach and group teach as well. The band program typically perform concerts with Grayhawk to offer a more exciting larger group experience.

Chorus
The Pinnacle Peak Singers is a group of 4th through 8th grade students who meet weekly to sing and share their love of music. Practice is held on Wednesday mornings before school, from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. in the Music Room. This group is a non-audition group and all are welcome.
